gluing-up a laminated riser blank

Hi all,Thank-you for all your help.Question,I had some time at work today so I glued up a block to make a practice riser cuz it's my first and I like to practice on scrap,then I questioned myself.I glued it up face grain to face grain,is this correct? does face grain get glued to the lams in  the stack?or does edge grain get glued to the stack? thanks Burt

Edge grain should be touching the stack, flat grain visible from the side.  At least that is what I have been told for strength.  I've seen it done both ways though.

For looks and strength yes flat grain on the sides. Some woods will do fine quarter sawen also. For a TD riser just for safety I either use some accents ibeam or glass on the front no matter the wood. If you look at a TD riser where the throat and shelf you have interrupted the grain structure. So you need to have something there to tie things together. On a one piece where you have glass already in front and back of the riser again depending on the species of wood to me is not as important. But it sure don't hurt to have it.
