belly tempering question

When you guys temper a bow belly... At what point do you do it?  It seems to me the way to do it would be to tiller it out to full draw a couple pounds light and then temper and touch up the tiller if necessary... But i don't know.  I guess another angle to ask that question is.... When you temper a belly... To what depth is the belly wood tempered?  Like if you temper the belly when you still have ten pounds to lose... Do you remove the tempered wood when you finish tillering?

I usually temper the belly when I'm straightening or bending on a caul and sometimes temper later with whitewoods and give it a good scorching.
 You want to temper the belly before you stress the wood to help prevent set.

I temper after achieving final tiller.  Before I start shooting, I go ahead and scorch it good.  It worked beautifully in my friend's Christmas bow I made.

No problem doing it later but if you do it early on also you might prevent some of the cell damage caused by the compression stresses.
 What kind of wood are you using? It is more noticeable tempering whitewoods than woods like osage although I temper osage also.
