broadhead sharpening
« on: March 02, 2008, 09:33:00 AM »
I was at the archery expo in Kalamazoo Mi. in Jan. and sat in on Monty Browning's lecture about arrow penitration. He covered proper broadhead selection for various hunts. I have only hunted deer and small game in my home of Michigan and I have stuck with a Magnus 2 blade 125gr. glue on tip and have become very good at making them shaving sharp. After Mr. Brownings lecture on the big game hunts, he has made me realize that my two blade isn't the 1 size fits all and I have been looking at buying a pack of wensel woodsman broadheads. My question is this, how do you guy's sharpen them? I have a lanski sharpening kit and it works quite well for the two blade. would it work for the three blade?

during the disscussion he took out his knife and cut on two pcs. of paper the wound cavity caused by two and three blade also explained how a running animal the skin would move from side to side making the tear 50% of the time over good flesh resulting in poor blood trail. that was somthing  I had not thought of.

The hole in the hide is still there and blood builds up underneath it, very fast, when lung or heart hit, so the blood will still leak out.

There's a great tutorial for sharpening them somewhere on here but I can't find it at the moment.   "[dntthnk]"

All you'll ever need for those woodsmans...
I've used this method for my Snuffers and the results are...refreshing, to say the least.

I would hold off buying until maybe late summer.  The inventory is mostly poor quality.  There is supposed to be a re-tooled version available soon, but the stuff currently out there isn't it.  Many of us are not pleased with the WW right now.  It was a great head, and became poor due to QC issues.  Hopefully this will be rectified.

I hope the new ones are available soon.

That wasn't me, Tom. That video happens to be yet another treasure from Mr. Charlie Lamb...

I used Charlie's method, and hopefully in a couple of weeks I can show pics of hogs when I get back from Texas.
