O.L. Adcock Longbow...........Arrow spine help!
«
on:

I have an OL Adcock one piece lonbow 62" 53#@28" and need some help in choosing arrow spine? Any Adcock shooters out there that could help out? My draw is 28"
Also where is the best spot for top quality wood shafts? I use gasket lacquer so compressed shaft wont work.
Thanks
Tenbrook

Cody, do you belong to Santa Cruz archers?
You have a couple of great longbow shooters right there in your home town.Great asset to have near by.
Arrow choice wood depend on how the riser window is cut. But, I would think a 45 / 50 pound woodie shaft would work for you.
This site has some arrow charts you can use.

These guys are great to do business with also

Depending on what point weight you use and how long you like to leave you arrows, I would suggest a 70/75 or 75/80 for woods. Carbon, I would go with a 250 or 55/75 with a heavier point.

70/75-75/80 wow thats higher then I expected. Is that because they are cut to center that they need a heavier spine arrow? What do you shoot in your 49# acs cx?

I think Bjorn from Los Gatos shoots a 49# ACS, ask him.

I believe the proper way to answer this question is through deflection. I have a CX and an ACS 51 at 28 and they shoot .500 and .400. It's my opinion that the .500 shoot better. I've use points from 125 to 250 on a 30 inch arrow that I draw 29.

If ya want carbons go with the Heritage 150 cut to 29"s and 175 grains up front, it will fly perfect out of your bow. If ya want would I would also go with 29" arrow bop and 70-75# spine. Ya figure ya add 15#s to bow weight for the high performance LB and than 5#s more for the 1" over 28" draw. That would be 20#s plus bow weight, equals 73# spine. Shawn

I also should of said I would not even attemp the 45-50# spine above, that OL bow may snap that at the shot. Shawn

I have the exact same bow but my draw is a little shorter (26 3/4). Mine likes Heritage 150's cut to 29 1/2 with 100gr insert & 125 grain point. It also likes the Beeman's (i've shot 400's & 500's & i agree with bowmania...the 500's shoot better). That being said, i have some 725 grain Poplar that Troy Breeding made for me before his move to Missouri & compounds & it likes them as well. That's one of the reason i like my Adcocks & my A & H ACS CX so well...they cover up a lot of my "errors".

Wow. I'm glad that wasn't me buying arrows for that bow I would have got really under spinned shafts according to what you guys are saying. Are you really saying an Adcock longbow at 53 pounds should be shooting 75 pound spined arrows? That's incredible. Everyone should own one of those if they shoot that well. I need to check them out. Sorry I gave you the wrong advice tenbrook. I tend to like my shafts a little under spined and build the rest out if needed. I have better results that way. Gapmaster

I shoot an 53#@28 A&H ACS CX and I'm currently using 75-80 spine wood, they work really well from the bow, as has been said due to it being cut past centre, therefore a minimal need for archerys paradox. IMO it will pretty much shoot anything you fancy.
I'm currently waiting to take delivery of a O.L Adcock ACS CX at 45# and I'll be looking around 65-70 for that.

OK so I need 70-75 spine. Now where is the best source to buy premium wood shafts? Also what do you guys like better Sitka Spruce or POC?
Thanks!

It's all wood to me, the current set I'm using are Sitka Spruce and seem to do the job for me.
Personally I get all my arrows made for me by
Joe Lorenzen
he does a far better job than I could ever do.

Tenbrook I use 70-75 for my 49 and 50# ACS CX's, and I don't draw the full 28.......you may need to try a couple of each spine. I live in Los Gatos and have a spine-o-meter, lots of shafts and a place to shoot beside the house if you would like to see what's best.
