Draw Length on Trad Bows
« on: March 02, 2008, 11:20:00 AM »
Ok, I know AMO draw Length for compounds is your true draw length (inside grip to nocking point) plus 1.75").

When trad bow makers call out 50# at 28", is this AMO method or is this true draw length?

Depends on the bow maker.  Some are using true AMO, others are measuring to the back of the bow.  Regardless, the difference between the two measurements is very small, probably only a pound or so, and often they will be the same.

Reason I ask, is I bought a selfbow recently, and it says 50lbs @28", but according to my 1 zipper, and my 2 martins, its not 50lbs.  At my draw on my other three bows, its right where they advertise.  But this bow, its more like 47-48# at my draw.  My draw is 27 3/4" to 28" (AMO draw) and more like 26 1/4" true draw from my grip to my nock.
