« on: February 14, 2014, 03:01:00 PM »
I was wondering if using leather dye on lams would cause any problems. It would be a glass bow. I would be using smooth on epoxy.the dye is fiebings alcohol base I think.

I would stay away from water based dyes. They can make your lams curl, twist and or ward. Just my .02 worth.

Yep, I had them warp with water. The bow ended up ok, but I wouldn't do it again. I use alcohol based aniline. Be sure to brush them with a stiff, clean, nylon brush afterwards because the dye can leave residue behind which can adversely affect the bond.

Don't use water based dye, it will raise the grain of the wood. Use alcohol based dyes.
