Shed hunting just got serious
« on: February 23, 2014, 01:20:00 AM »
So today I was hunting for sheds in my local woods and got chased a good two hundred feet by a rabid raccoon ( btw they are fast ). My salvation was car door was unlocked and open so I jumped in and then chased it away from my property. Any of you guy's had anything like this happen? This is the second time I've encountered a rabid raccoon but this is the first time I've seen one that agressive

Put it down before it spreads it to other animals.

I came upon one that wasn't aggressive, but was not afraid either.  It was out in the middle of the day and just sat there as I walked by.

I pinned one to the ground once with an arrow while I was exiting the turkey woods.  It got a little too close for comfort and was obviously rabid.

I had one come at me in the early morning on my way out turkey hunting. It was dark out, but just light enough I could see him when he got close. Luckily I had just dropped a round into my shotgun. Holy CRAP that thing was fast. He almost got me... if it wasn't for the high grass, he would have. It happened fast. The whole thing was over in a couple seconds. Nothing like a fight or flight adrenaline rush first thing in the morning to get the old blood pumpin.

I've only had one run in with a strange raccoon out in South Dakota while hunting wild birds. The dang thing looked like a badger, huge, fat and appeared to be missing all or part of its tail. It made all kinds of ruckus with the dogs, sounded like a Tasmanian devil.

Had a skunk turn and chase me while out turkey hunting once. Not sure if he was rabid, but wasn't waiting to find out

yeah I'm pretty sure it's a good idea to run from a skunk rabid or not    ;)
