Shelf reshaping?
« on: March 05, 2014, 11:47:00 AM »
I have a Pearson recurve that someone took a dremel to the shelf and roughed it up. I need to smooth it out and maybe reshape it. Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!

tread lightly.

Don't use coarse tools to speed up what should be a fairly quick job anyway.

Don't cut into the window.

If you can't resist using a file or rasp, work from the outside in to keep from having the edges tear out.

Take your time.

Seal it back up with wipe on oil based poly or truoil.

John nailed it! You may also want to use a soft jaw vice if you have one. I slip up too often when I free hand work.

Maybe a small sanding block and 220 grit paper. You have pictures?

Yeah, depending on how rough it is, just start with a reasonable grit paper and work your way up.

As Roy said, you may want a small sanding block or something.

You can always stick PSA sandpaper to an appropriate sized piece of hardwood to make a simple sanding stick
