Cocobolo help

I used cocobolo tip overlay on my trade bow, but can't get the finish to dry.  I'm using tru oil as a finish and it dries on the rest of the bow, but the tips stay tacky.  Is there anything I can use to help them dry?  I tried setting them beside the wood stove and that did not work.  Any suggestions

Seal them first with some superglue or shellac

Like Trux said..You will have to sand the tru oil off the cocobolo and seal the tips with either super glue or dewaxed shellac, then apply the finish. I have not used tru oil so I dont know if it reacts poorly with the sealer.

I'm currently having the same issue with cocobolo and wipe-on-poly.

Really dont wanna sand it off but I guess I will ... might just wait a month and see if it eventually cures.

Bulls eye sanding sealer works great too. Dries tacky so your finish will stick to it. No problems after using that.

I had the same trouble with coco on a recurve riser.  Ended up sealing with a few coats of CA, then poly over that.  Just be careful not to sand through that CA glue or you'll get spots that won't set up.  Don't ask how I know

Just checked to see how it's drying - OK.  the CA worked.  Thanks guys.

How do you guys coat risers in CA?  Spray it on? Wipe it on? What about the transitions into the limbs?  I'd think it'd show up.  Been wanting to try this but haven't been able to bring myself to just dump CA all over the riser and sand out all the imperfections haha.

I tried super glue on a riser once..even in my vented shop it almost gassed me out..I bought a spray can of Bullseye shellac and it was alot better for me. Dried fast and didn't gas me out..I still use CA for tips and limb edges.

I don't think you can wait it out. Had one I tried that on and it would get gummy at shoots and peel.

If you get some krylon crystal clear acrylic it will cure on anything.  that's all I use now.

Do you use the krylon on the limbs. How does it bend?

I for got to mention to use the indoor out door sort, I also like the satin finish.  It holds up well to moisture and there isn't a problem on the limbs.  It's important to buff between coats and allow to dry well between coats.  It's dry to touch after only about 10 min. but I let it go about an hour between coats.

I've also use the superglue gel to precoat the oily woods and then used tru-oil and that works well too.
