I tried to thin it with acetone and denatured alcohol in hopes of arriving at a "Massey" finish.  It didn't mix well at all!  Maybe there is a way, neither of those worked.

What do you plan to do with it?

What do you want it thinned for?  Maybe there's an alternative solution.  Smooth On will get thinner if you warm it up a little, but maybe not as thin as you want.

I thinned it down and used it for 'The Massey Finish'... which worked good enough... though, not my gig.... what a pain in the butt'. It took a LOT of mixing before it was all dissolved.

I was reluctant to say that I am gluing fake snakeskin to the back of my latest RD glass bow... I KNOW,I KNOW. But the fact is that the back came out with a few small air pockets and I want to hide them. Would love to use the real thing. But alas. My budget wont support that. Living in Canada, we have no rattle sakes that I can harvest myself.

Would tite bond wood glue be a better choice?

The tite bond, works, well with the real ones so should do the job on the fake ones. Are the fake ones some sort of plastic?

I looked at the 3Rivers web site since they sell them.. They recommend tite bond 3 glue or Barge Cement, they do say use epoxy if you want permanent adhesion.

The hobby stores catering to modelers sell an 2part epoxy that I've used for backings.  It seems to be packaged under the name of the store selling it.  It is much thinner than smooth on!
