33" draw

I have a mate with a 33" draw  
And he wants me to help him build a glass bow.
I was thinking about on the Kenny m form that I have, I did read about someone who had built them out to 66" .

Would that be the way to go, and how would I have to adjust the stack to hit target weight, I have all the 64 and 62" stack thicknesses.

Or would the 64" do the trick for that draw, and then just adjust up for the extra draw length???

33" draw!? Figure the bow out later, first find some arrows!

If it were me, I'd say with. 33" draw if you slightly undershoot weight, it'll still smoke an arrow for hunting.

I'd go 66" on he Kenny M form, id use a stack thickness for the 64" for 5# less than he wants.

So if he wants 50# @ 33" I'd use the stack thickness the 64" bow for say 45# @ 28" or so.

When you build that at 66" you should be around 40# @ 28" which is probably really close to 50#@ 33". Assuming the bow isn't stacking up at that point, but I don't think it will be.

I have built a handful of 66" bows off of my KennyM design form. I used amberboo tapers. The first one has a 18 1/2" riser, I added a 24" 030 "powerlam" (only last inch is tapered) that extends 2 1/2" past each riser fade. Bow is 1.40 wide at fades and 9/16" at string nocks. Total stack is 0.366. On my scale it is 46# at 28".. My favorite 66" longbow is 42# at 28", specs are 19 1/2" riser (long fades) with a 23" long 040 powerlam. Total stack is 0.356   ..I built another one with a .361 stack without the powerlam, it also came in 42#.. I have specs for 29-35# if you need them

was the reason for the longer risers to reduce the working limb length on the longer bow, and to improve efficiency?

did the powerlam make a big difference.

when you say "long fades"- the riser dimensions essentially the standard riser in the hand grip area- just the fades extended.?

I don't know stacks, but I draw a good bit longer than him.  You need to know where that design stacks, if at all.  For instance, the bow I shoot is 43@28 but at my draw is 65-70#.  Without the stacking point you're flying blind on your calculation of what weight to use.  

Arrows are easy.  Some carbons come 34" now, if you look hard.  There are ways to make up 33" arrows, but finding out if that design stacks is the issue.  Believe me, I know.

Yes standard riser just longer fades..The longer fades and powerlam do add a few pounds to the bow..the thin powerlam along with the long thin fades do shorten the working part of the limb a little. Some will say The long thin fades are really a waste of wood and a thicker powerlam would do the same thing, that is true. For a 33" draw I would leave the power lam out since you may need more working limb than my 27" draw length. I like a long thin fade to spread the load out..we have all seen the pics of short recurve bows that break at the end of their short fades.

i got a friend up here that stands 7'6" and has a 34" draw(drawn to the corner of mouth). he had a custom hill style made for him from a guy back east somewhere(backyard bowyer). it's 70"ntn 65@34 reverse handle. i shot it a few times and it's pretty nice at my 30". for arrows he got some from the same guy, ash(?) shafts with a ipe footings(fore and aft). they are 36" long, barrel tapered, with brass screw on points. sweet looking arrows too. i'll see if i can get him to send me some pics and i'll post them.

Mine are 38", I posted them in the Powwow if you want to see them.  I'm making up a trio of 39" carbons when my supplies get here, and I'll post how it's done when I make them up.

You can also go to Forrester's site and order them in any length you like.  I'm still planning a set of shafts based on his work, just waiting on funds.
