Advice on Hill build
« on: October 17, 2014, 04:33:00 PM »
I'm looking at doing another one for myself.  My first followed jsweka's build with the limb taper starting 18" out from center straight to 1/2" at the tips.  My bow was 66" 54@28.  Total stack was .400.  Total taper was .002 and the riser length was 16".

I'd like this next bow to be 1 1/8" at the fades with a straight taper to .5" tips.  I'm looking for another 66" that is 58-60# @28 this time around.   Looking to do .005-.006 total taper.  14" riser this time.  Guessing my stack to be around .550 or so.  Very rough guess based on some searches here of prior builds.
Thanks for any help,
Ben

Just got off the phone with Mike from 7 Lakes.  Wow, what a guy.  Spent an hour talking bows.  He said .545 should be right in the ballpark.  I'm going to get everything I need from him.

Ben - Mike's advice sounds good.

In my last couple bows, I added taper (changed from 0.002 to 0.005) and also narrowed the limbs to 1 1/8".  Of course I had to add total stack thickness in the process.  I like that design better than my old design - less hand shock, but same cast for a given draw weight.

john, were you finding it was bending too much at the fades- hence the taper only starting 18" out.
are you still doing the same limb profile on your updated version?

thanks- lining myself up for a hill build in the near future- just got a new bow i am working on right  now
thanks
wayne

Yeah, I wanted to move the bend further out the limbs.  I now start the width taper about 16" out from center.
