Added a couple new and different veneers
« on: November 08, 2014, 02:08:00 PM »
Guess you can say I'm always looking for something different and unusual.

Thought I'd try a new type splicing. These are Brown Birdseye Maple and Walnut:

Here is a close up of the splice:

For the unusual, I ran a cross a piece of Quilted Poplar about a week ago and thought "what the heck, folks are always wanting something different".

I took a scrap piece of the Quilted Poplar and dyed it with a couple different colors.

Gray dye:

Golden Brown dye:

I'll have both of these up on my site in a little while.

Thanks fellows. I'm always looking for something different. May try doing something like this with a little Myrtle if I can find the right material for the contrasting colors.

Awesome troy! How long are they from the walnut end to the start of the arrowhead? I'd hate to cover those with overlays!

Mike,

It's a tad over 8". I took that into consideration when making them. If used in a one piece the overlay would have to be under 16" to prevent covering any of the spliced arrowhead. If they were going to be used in a takedown the spliced arrowhead could either be around mid limb or by trimming a little off both ends the arrowhead could be just above the take down bolts

Glad to say the full set of veneers will be heading out to their new owner Monday.

Looks like I need to start up another set. Now the question is what material to use.

Why not use real wood, like Osage and Black Walnut?  :)  LOL

That could be done, but why not use something with a little color and character in it?   :bigsmyl:
