question about 3pc takedown limbs
« on: January 12, 2015, 11:16:00 AM »
hi there...

i build 2 3pc glass take down.

but i have a question about the limb lamination.

are limbs "must" to make them laminated with 2 lams  or can it be 1 lam with same stack thickness?

thanks...

best.

You most certainly can use one core lamination on a glass backed take down. In certain designs, I've even heard of better performance. Although, longevity may suffer a bit from the single lamination being stressed more from tension/compression. I doubt you'll have to worry about any delamination. But, you may lose a bit of performance from a bit of string follow after a few thousand shots though. Id be sure to use a tried and true core wood!

Some bowyers prefer a single lam, while others prefer seven or more, and everything in between.
Plant a fruit or nut tree today, and have good hunting tomorrow.

The Groves Spitfire recurve used  single Maple core sandwiched between glass.

I have a PSE takedown that I am fixing for a guy and it has a single core of maple, so yes you can.
