monterey, you should see what the rest of my shop looks like, stuff practically stacked on top of another, good idea Bue but think I will get myself in trouble sober without the booze as an added extra The 3 HP model has a 15 amp plug and I didn't have an outlet. Doubt if I would want any more HP anyhows.

What is the voltage in Australia? Are you going to modify the drive wheel  so you can use a prifiling jig.I saw a couple of posts here where that was done. Here in Norway we have 230 volts- 50 hertz. Bue--.

Bue I think over there they have a monkey that turns a crank for power..

no gloves Roy, the fabric becomes a magnet for the sanding grit and helps drag your fingers along!!!     Bue, the voltage is 240 here.Too soon yet to see what mods I can or might do with it.Roy we aren't able to use a monkey here anymore since you went back to Turkey's a@# in USA!

My only problem with these big sanders on 220v is that I really prefer the smell of gasoline with my horsepower.

I think it's from growing up at the drag strip .... When someone comes out with an edge sander than runs on a turbocharged Briggs and Stratton .... I'll buy .....

There is a 1/8th" gap between the belt and edge of the table, no way a hand could be drawn into that. I can see the concern with larger factory machines. The gloves I wear are not strapped tight around my wrist, if I move my arm like throwing a base ball, the gloves fly off my hand.

But to each their own I suppose. Should we wear safety goggles, a respirator, hearing protection, and fire proof cloths all the time. Well yes we should, but we don't. I have worked in a guys shop and he used one of those torpedo heaters for heat, while the shop was filled with flammable materials and piles of saw dust. I stayed close to the door..

You get that glove into that 1/8" gap and it could wrap up on your hand so that it won't just pull off, and if it then pulls under that drum on the end too... you could be in trouble.

I'm only telling you cuz I like you and don't want to see you get hurt. NO FRIGGIN GLOVES on that thing!

And by he way, I DO wear safety glasses, respirators, hearing protection, AND gloves... when and where appropriate.
