Bowyer's Ruler
« on: January 31, 2015, 06:13:00 PM »
I was wondering if anyone had a copy of the bowyers ruler from a few years ago? I believe it was also called the ferrets floppy ruler, but not if that's a different one.

Any help would be appreciated in either finding or recreating one, thanks!

I did a pretty extensive look and where ever the pdf was posted it had been removed by mods. Not sure what was going on there.

I did find an article entitled:

NTANewsletterMarch2012.pdf

found here:

 http://www.nebraskatraditionalarchers.org/newsletters/NTANewsletterMarch2012.pdf

This has the floppy ruler in it on page 18 that you can print out and use.

Mickey Lotz, the guy that came up with the ruler, took his archery site down for some reason as well, but he had a lot of good info there. Too bad he didn't keep it up on the web. It was a good resource for building self bows.

You may have to mess around to the scale depending on your printer and other settings.  It's best if you print it on a transparency.

That is a nice ruler for sure. But you can lay out a riser section just as easy with any clear plastic ruler. I get an 18" clear plastic ruler  at Staples office supply.

I have one that Ferret was handing out a few years ago at MOJAM, has been one of the handiest tools in bowmaking for me.

As Roy stated, it's not mandate, but having the markings on it sure help out a lot.

Now, if a fella wanted, he could combine Mickey's ingenuity with Roys thoughts and make marks on a clear plastic ruler... just sayin.

I use mine on every bow I make.  It is very clever.

Again, it's best if you print it on a transparency.

Maybe print it on one of those flexible magnifiers so the old farts can see the marks
