Your thoughts please.
« on: February 06, 2015, 08:54:00 PM »
I have made a few take downs in the past but want to step up my game for the swap bow I have to make... I put this together a while back and pulled it out the other day, I'm just not sure about it, it shoots really sweet, and draws super smooth... Stringing it is a little tough I think it could use tip wedges,  the unstrung profile just looks odd to me..

What do you guys think?

From what I can see it looks really good.  The photos are a little small is all. Its an all wood design I gather.  I would not over pull it; looks stressed in the fade area.

Looks like glass to me.  I like the feel of the forward handle like that - the looks not much though.    :)

Looks pretty good to me. I have never built or shot a belly mount before, but intend to soon.

If I were you, I'd make the next one with one inch longer limbs, and 1/2"-3/4" longer wedges. Or possibly use an increased taper rate, making the limb butts thicker, and tips thinner. In the latter scenario, I would probly add tip wedges. I'd also move the limb bolts out as close to the riser ends as possible.
Plant a fruit or nut tree today, and have good hunting tomorrow.

Looks good. Don't worry about making it longer ... I only draw 25" so it's perfect as is ... Lol.

You limb pad angle looks Flat? If so you may benefit from a few degrees of delflex there. Things you try one at a time to get results or not

It's drawn to 29" there and it's glass. It is bending a little fast at the fades, I think crooked stic is right with adding some pad angle.

I originally made the limbs for a 6 degree pad angle but changed up the riser idea... I have a old check mate recurve that I thought would look cool with reverse mounted limbs, so I tried it. I thought with the riser itself having some deflex in it the flat pad may work.

What would you try for that angle?

It may just be the camera, but it looks like the limb bolts are on the wrong end of the limb pad!

It's not just the camera! That's an oops!
