Finishing Padauk

Has anyone tried to finish Padauk? I have not and am wondering if Spar Urethane can be used or if its more like Coco and Bocote? Thanks!

Some varnishes can cause padauk to bleed color.

I believe if you coat it with super glue first, it will take the spar..

I've used Paduak in the past and it will bleed like crazy if you try to seal it with the Massey finish. Guess the Acetone causes it. Super glue should do the trip.

Yep shellac will work just fine. Remember to fill the grain well with it.

Ok with the super glue do you just wipe it on? Also do you use the thin stuff or jell?

Just wipe it on. The thin stuff, and do it where you have ventilation. It will burn your eyes.
You can get shellac in a spray can if you want to try that. I use it to seal bows, especially if I'm in a hurry to get out and shoot.

Zinzers bulls eye seal coat works great.  Stuff dries super fast and fills the grain with enough coats.  I have had mixed results super glue, probably just my technique.

If the padauk bleeds anyway, I would spray something on it for sure....

I've used shellac and it did the job

OK I used Spray Shellac but it still bled  little. I put like 5 coats on it then after it dried good one coat of satin urethane.

Don't know how to avoid that unless 3-4 really really light coats to start off?

Yes i believe light coats are the key, I still have al0t of grain though?
