Recurve "curves"?

I notice a lot of recurve bows has a somewhat "snakey" side profile instead of a perfectly smooth curve from centre to tip. Are there a specific reason for this? Does it shoot better than a smoother tiller?

I have only had dealing with one recurve with a "snakey" profile. It was super fast for the poundage, quiet and smooth with no hand shock. It was described to me as a compound limb design.

I am sure someone can add more details

I'm guessing the limbs are pre-loaded so they open at different times during the draw for more performance.

I do not think there is a lot of recurves made like that, but Bill Stewart makes one which he calls  Multi Cam design. Greenhorn Archery from Belgium also has a similar design in one of their recurve models. Bue--.

Wapiti has some limbs with that design.  Not sure why though.
