Channel for Plans And BluePrints etc.
« on: June 02, 2015, 05:12:00 AM »
how about creating a static channel or topic that people can post their bow plans and blueprints and some necessary other things for building.

would be nice to share the knowledge in one place that anyone can see on the top  :D
these are not the droids you are looking for.

That's what this Bowyer's Bench forum is supposed to be, among other things....  Blueprints for bows?

yuyp Ink, i tried that a while ago- i wanted to create some kinda of database within the bowyers bench- so that one didnt have to search thru obscure thread titles trying to find a design ( and i know that- cos when i look back at some of my threads- i am still confused    :D    )

but it never really got much enthusiasm. but thats cool!
whenever i see a design i like - i print off the entire thread- and so have been compiling my own database.

i know how you feel, there is so much knowledge and expertise here- just scared of not being able to absorb it all, or at least know how to access it easily- well thats what the other voice in my head says

We could probably post a few here in this thread.  I have several ASL designs that could probably be converted to PDF.  Need to experiment a bit first.

Don't know if this will work, but it should take you to a page where you can download plans for a Hill style ASL.

I've been a hardcore bow hunter for a few years now and used several different brands of Compound bows (to a decent degree of success). I'd read and heard about traditional archery and instinctive shooting in several magazine articles and TV shows, but I never found myself interested in it. This past March I went to a 3D shoot for the first time ever. I guess I was going through some post season withdrawal. I saw two older gentlemen shooting recurve bows at the practice range and it was love at first sight. The bows they had were elegant with clean and smooth lines. The wood on the bows were looked absolutely gorgeous. After a while they noticed me eyeing them and one of the gentlemen offered me a chance to put a few arrows into a target with his bow. In the three seconds it took me to draw and let loose the first arrow I knew right then and there I was hooked. Both men then told me they made the bows. I said to them "YOU MADE THIS???!!!”

Since then I've been obsessed with building a recurve bow and hunting with it this upcoming season. I've read several books, watched hours of YouTube and read through many threads here on tradgang.com. However finding actual build plans or blueprints have not been easy to come across. Super long story short...

Blueprints or build plans in one easy to find place is a great idea!
Respectfully

Yes, Bingham is a great resource.  One of their best bits of advice is to not start off experimenting with design.

It takes some time and study to figure out the implications of design and apply them.  The never ending learning process is a large part of the attraction to bow building.

Binghams cost more and (build your own bow $15.00 I think)

you are not suppose to share (Post) plans for someone else that did not pay for it.

I have both and that's what I read.

It takes a lot of work to draw a bow and give measurements and patterns for people

ask kenny he did it, and had to charge you for it
It was cheep and a good design.    :)      :jumper:

I measured a bow that I bought
every inch, width and thickness on the limbs

traced the reflex and swung a tape measure to find the radius,  then drew it on my CAD program
I would rather fail at something above my means, than to succeed at something  beneath my means

Mark is right, R&D is costly. Now that I've retired to only one full time job, Ben helped me with the computer side of it and you can use the plans all you want for free.....

I have a 62" one piece recurve on my computer

I can't figure out how to get it on this page so you can look at it.
OR
It's a dxf file, I could email to someone if they wanted to post it
but I don't know how to e-mail it either.

Not sure if you were referring to the plans that I posted, but they belong to me and were created by me.  They are full size have match lines that allow them to be taped up and glued to the back of the bow.

Admittedly, a flat ASL is a pretty simple design, but useful for a beginner.

If your CAD program will allow you to print full size plans, then you can print yours full size with cutePDF and post or email them that way.  Do a Google search for cutepdf.  It's a free download.

No I don't know anything about your plans, but I will check them out. where is it?

I could do some more drawing, (templates & form)
but somebody has to help me get it posted

I do print some of my drawings at office ____

That's all over my head-- cutepdf
I will check it out
I can't figure out how to export my drawings to e-mail or to the forum, I can burn it to a disk while pulling my hair out.
Thanks

The ones I posted are in one of my posts above in a link called "hill plans" (or something like that).

Cutepdf is simple.  You download it and it functions as a printer.  Just hit print and then select it from your drop down list of printers.  Once it is "printed" it is a PDF.  You can email it or whatever.
