WARNING don't use bamboo flooring on a Hill ASL

Just a heads up I found out the hard way, I had a wonderful piece of figured Myrtle for the handle(from Mike at Rosewood) green glass from OMC and bamboo flooring. Well it was 1" at fades and 7/16" at nocks and you can take the tips by hand and bend them side to side about 2" either way, they are so flimsy. Never had that happen with solid lams , the tips are about as thick as they are wide. Time to start over.

I have never had any problems and sure never had any bend like that.

Yes, what type/brand of boo flooring were you using? Perhaps it was a bad batch? I've used it before and know others who have used it in Hill-style ASLs without a problem.

It was Morning Star. I've used it in many other bows with no problem. Already started another one got the riser blanked out(Walnut) and the lams blanked out as well (Walnut also)
I'll have to think on this if you guys haven't had any problems, I thought maybe it was because the tips were as wide as they were thick??

i think longrifle may be on the mark re width versus depth. I have made many , many longbows with the vertical laminated flooring without ever having a problem.Maybe if it was horizontally laminated or strand woven flooring that could also be the cause.

Bob it was  vertically laminated boo,from what you guys are saying it must be a fluke. My original post stated I could move the tips side to side 2" that was not true, more like 1" of travel but still enough to cause problems.

Jess I was thinking the same thing, I know the classic ASL Hill is colored glass, bamboo lams and a Myrtle handle that's what I was trying to do. Just finished sanding the riser and running lams on its replacement, it will be all Black walnut (riser and lams) with brown glass. I think I'll call it Wally!!

Black Walnut has impressed me the few time I have used it a-boo not so much. I plan on using walnut in my next longbow also.

I think it was a bad design and you will have the same problem with another lam material.

Stagmitis the bow was 66" long
14" riser
And .006 taper with 3
James it may be a bad design but I just finished its replacement an all Walnut bow with all the same specs as the failed bow and it came out great. The tips were way stiffer than the failed bow , finished at 56lbs.

Obviously it wasn't your design but a defect in the material. Lets see some pictures.
