Redemption
« on: July 22, 2015, 09:01:00 PM »
A little while ago I posted pictures of a bamboo, padauk tri-lam I built. While stringing it a while later, it popped a long splinter in the backing. Rather than cutting it up for firewood, I ground off the bad lam and added a new one along with a thin power lam to fix a problem that I had noticed at the fades.
Here are some pics of the resurrected bow.

This bow is 70" long, 69" NTN, 53# @ 28".
Oil paint stained bamboo back, padauk core, scorched bamboo belly and a flooring bamboo power lam. The riser is black limba and I inset a 5/8" compass into the grip.
The repaired bow gained 3# and it really smokes an arrow. I think it will be coming moose hunting this fall!
Dave.

That bow is sweet.  Nice work
It's hard to make a wooden bow which isn't beautiful, even if it's ugly.

Good save!

Very nice work Dave.

How long of a power lam did you use?

I'm impressed with how little set there is near the fades.

WOW! I got a very nice from Roy!    :goldtooth:
Thanks bud! Because of your generosity the strings on my bows are my own make.
Ben, the riser is 14" long and before the fix it was beginning to show signs of too much set at the fades. I added a 1/8" X 18" power lam made of flooring boo and the problem went away.
I'm surprised at how little set the bow took as a whole. After shooting, the tips still have some backset.
Thanks everyone for your comments. I wouldn't be building bows if it weren't for Trad Gang and all of you.
Dave.
