Mountain ash?
« on: October 09, 2015, 04:44:00 PM »
Is mountain ash a good bow wood?
My Sister just moved into a new house and there are a lot of ash trees on the property. There is one big one that has a straight trunk for two feet or so, then 5 or 6 big branches that spread out. They are so big that the trunk is splitting under the weight and I think that I'll end up cutting it down at some point.

Mountain ash(aka Rowan) makes a good bow although I've never made one. I have seen a few but most were made in Europe.

Thanks Pat. It's too bad this tree is splitting. It's a nice one and always full of birds. When it looks like it will soon break, I'll cut it down.
