Morrison Foam Core limbs are great!
« on: March 06, 2008, 04:15:00 PM »
I did some shooting with the Cheyenne at lunch today. The new foam core limbs I got are 45#. Shooting a 525gr arrow it chrono'd at 173fps. The 55# actionboo limbs throw a 610gr. 175fps. So, going down 10# I have not dropped much at all in speed. Now I am interested to hear from others what the 55#-60# foam core limbs chrono at! These 45# limbs are a great weight for everyday shooting for me. I will hunt with the heavier limbs just to be legal mostly. I don't have any doubts that the 45#er would be able to drop an elk along with good arrow placement and appropriate distance to target.

A different bow every day? What happened to the pic rule Snag!
With all those beautiful bows around cluttering up your place a camera might be hard to find?

LOL!! yea,  pictures please.  :)
“instinctive archery” is more like playing the violin. Without practice you may remember the mechanics, but you will not be a virtuoso.

Snag; you may have not lost much in speed between the 2 bows because the grains/lb. are almost the same. However you have lost a lot in hitting power!!!

Bjorn, this bow was already shown in another post...did you miss it?  March 3 under "Morrison Cheyenne w/ foam core limbs". Take a look. I love the satin black limbs with the Macassar Ebony!

I agree Sergio about the loss in hitting power. Since I purchased them for tournament and target shooting I am not concerned with that. But that is a good observation. It's still 11.66gr. per lbs. I like that!

Shawn, are you saying the 45# will shoot the same speed as a set of 60#...both foam core?

Yup, with all else equal. 45 times 9 = 405 grain arrow and 60 times 9 = 540 grain arrow both drawn to 28"s lets say will shoot the same speed with same limb and riser design.  Shawn

Snag
Do as shawn said.
Always consider the grains per pound math when measuring speed.

It will be exactly the same speed no matter draw weight.

the numbers you posted tells us that your foamcore limbs are actually 2-3 fps faster then your boo ones- if you do the math correctly

I read back over this and maybe I am just dense or something...what is the "9" X 45 and "9" X 60? Is that grs.per inch.  Because I shot CE 150s out of the 45# bow and CE 250s out of the 55# bow. So how does that factor in to the speed difference.  I would think that the lighter arrow going through a lighter bow would equal things out a bit...?

Personally I like the trajectory of a lighter arrow.Let's say you want a 600 grn arrow.I would rather shoot 65 lbs at 9.2 gpi than 55 lbs at 10.9 gpi.

Nice limbs just got a set of 50#@28" foam core to replace the 58#@29" Boo core limbs on Morrison bow very quite even with out puffs or rubber. My draw length is 27" and they are great limbs like all of Bob's work.

I took some wool yarn and wrapped the string from the loop down beyond where the string does not touch the limb any longer. Really quieted it down.
