TD Riser design Question
« on: March 06, 2008, 10:53:00 PM »
So I need to build a riser for a set of limbs.
The original riser had a pad angle of about 17.5 deg.  I've shot the bow as is, but it's quite noisy...I'm wondering if I decrease the angle to say, 14-15 deg., wouldn't that help improve the cast? Also I assume that doing this would mean increasing the optimum brace height to help quiet the bow....right or wrong?

First, get experienced opinion by calling someone at Bingham Projects.
But personally, I wouldn't screw with limb pad angle, it changes everything.  I am guessing reducing the angle may increase draw weight and DECREASE brace height.  I am assuming you mean reducing pad angle, will make the bow straighter.
I may be wrong, but I believe pad angle has very little to do with noise.  That is determined by everything else, string type, arrow weight, shelf material, bow quiver, and don't forget the contact between the riser and limbs.  You can dampen that by inserting (gluing) a piece of felt between them.  Also good string silencers and silencers where the string meets the limb tip (I like bow hush and hushpuppies).
Hope someone else with limb design experience jumps in here.

OconeeDan, yes I mean to lessen that angle.
I did not consider that it may increase draw weight! I don't wanna do that....I'm at 60lb now!

I'm gonna play with silencing options first on the old riser to see what I get.  Thanks, you got me thinking...
