Tip overlay woods?
« on: March 15, 2016, 02:56:00 PM »
Not sure about all these so asking for some advice.     Here is a list of woods that I am looking at for tip overlays, which will and will not make good overlays?
Purpleheart, Yellowheart, Wenge, Zebrawood, Bloodwood, Jatoba, Canarywood, and Budinga.
Thanks for any help.   ;)

I wouldn't hesitate to use any of them for tip overlays. I typically use bubinga and it has held up fine with all type of strings, both b55 and ff such as d97

Tip overlays on most bows, wood or glass, are primarily cosmetic, for appearance and almost any wood will work.

On fiberglass bows I like to use layers of 1/16" phenolic with a thin piece of wood on top.. I used a solid piece of Chechen for a tip overlay on an Osage bow.
