The old Herters/Thompson Fletchers vs Cabelas
«

I have an old Herters (made by Thompson)fletcher. The 3 fletch at a time one. Anyway I know Cabelas bought the design some years back and sell it exclusively in their stores and catalog. The catalog shows helical clamps sold as an add on option for the fletcher. Does anyone know if the helicals will fit my old fletcher ? It does not appear by the pictures that they have changed anything, but sure would not want to buy the clamps if they won't fit.

On further investigation it would appear that Cabelas makes TWO models- a helical and a straight. I assumed that all you had to do was buy helical clamps and stick them in my fletcher. That won't work (mine's a straight fletcher)But I wouldn't mind buying an extra set of clamps for mine. I'm guessing they would work ?

Tim,
I have an old Herter's fletcher and just received the helical clamps from Cabelas about 2 weeks ago. I had to file down the very ends of the clamps where they fit into the little spring clips to get them to fit in the Herter's jig. This was pretty easy as they are light aluminum and you only have to take off maybe a 1/16th of an inch from each end.

I have a herters and a cabela's I use straight clamps in both.. If you use tape there is no need for helical clamps.. Just set the angle you want and press the feather down to the shaft then pull the clamp off... I can do right or left wing this way and can see no difference in performance.
