Looking for a black bear outfitter
« on: March 07, 2008, 01:18:00 PM »
I am starting my search for a good black bear outfitter. I would like to hunt on the ground, preferably spot & stalk but may do bait style hunt. Would like someone who caters to traditional archers , knows how to get you close. I would like an outfitter known for big bears , I will probably only shoot one bear in my lifetime & would like to be 350lbs or better. Thanks for the help , any contact info would be great . Thanks, John

Check with Bowhunting Safari's.  I went with one of there outfitters in Saskatuwan a few years ago that would be exactly what you are talking about.

All Bowhunting, mostly stands but real close.

book a charter out in prince william sound, you dont need a guide just charter them they will boat you around and you do the hunting, if you want im shure you could set up some quick bait sets.  the bears in the sound are plentifull and quite large.

Slipps Brothers in New Brunswick. I'm not sure about ground hunting as they have trees stands set up that are quite big.
Cannot say enough good about them!

I believe the guide i saw was rob nye his website is camp grayling.ca. he is way up in northern canada but well worth the trip, he is also a fellow trad archer. I saw him take a nice black bear from the ground from about 10 yrds. I was on his web site and it is a bit pricey i think around 4800 dollars to much for this blue coller bowhunter but like you said this may be your only shot at one. good luck

A few of us are trying to get a fall bear hunt together in manitoba for this fall. This area is a bait hunt but has some very very big bears. My dad shot one over 350 last fall here.

I'll be hunting with primitive outfitting this spring on a spot and stalk black bear hunt. Jeff Lander, owner, runs a great camp and his area has very large numbers of bears. His area was featured in last issue of TBM written by D. Thomas. This will be my third spring up hunting with Jeff. He has an all traditional week, which is usually the last week in May. Hope this helps. Bob
