help with ILF

Where do you get the hardware, and what all is needed to build them?

Kenny, I have been buying ILF risers and only making the limbs.. For the limbs I buy ILF Detent Hardware kits from vendors like 3Rivers and Lancaster. These are the dovetails for the limbs only. I also bought a self centering drill jig for drilling the 3/8" holes for the detents and limb forks.. For the limb butt overlays I use 1/16" black phenolic and thin it down to 0.040"with my mini thickness sander.

You will need to make your own limb wedges too. I have a pattern sander on the end of my 6x80 Grizzly edge sander. I made a jig out of cabinet grade birch plywood scraps that works nicely..

I have been building my limbs to these specs, but I have been making my limbs wider than 1.56" wide, most are 1.65-1.72 at the widest point.

Robert, have you tried longbow limbs also? Would they use the same dimensions as shown I assume?

I may have to find an ILF riser , but would like to build my own. I suppose it would shorten the learning curve to buy one tho!

Kenny, I have not built ILF longbow limbs.The drawings above would be for longbow and recurve limbs. There dosen't seem to be a true ILF standard but I think alot guys use the drawings I posted. I have 7 ILF risers from 4 different manufactures and the 2.3125" center to center varies in some of them. So does the ear length,you dont want the end of the limb rubbing against the riser. I really like Aluminum risers with removable grips.

My TD longbow limbs would be great with the right angle on riser and a different wedge.

Would you know what the pad angle is on the ILF risers?

depends on riser length..I am not sure but I think a 15" riser might have 18*to 20* angle, longer risers like a 17" or 19" might have 15* to 18* angle. If you buy a riser make sure you get one with lateral limb adjustment..
