How long do veneers need to be?
« on: June 25, 2016, 09:31:00 PM »
I'm looking for spalted wood veneers (want it to look something like the old tree  bark camo in wood) I have found spalted woods but I don't  know what size (length /width) to make 60-62 inch recurve limbs?
Can shorter veneers be spliced together?

Generally the veneers should go from end to end.

Is this a one piece bow, or one of those bolted together 3 piece designs?   If it's one piece is this all wood, or wood under glass?  Veneers can be spliced together in the handle/riser area.  But you would not want all the veneers being splicced together in exactly the same place.

What width veneers?  Again, what design are you building?  Whose plan?  Or are you making it up as you go along?

Plus if you find a really nice piece you can splice them midlimb and add more length so don't stress about them being too short.

36" is standard @  lam stores
But if you are making a 3 piece Take down 29" might be all you need
