Ebony dymondwood
« on: June 29, 2016, 04:15:00 PM »
Hi Gang,

First time I heard of this type of Dymondwood was about two weeks ago.

Does anyone have pics or description as to how it looks in a riser? is it jet black or does it have the typical straight grain of the laminates of other dymondwoods?

If you'd have to pick, would you go for it or "real" dark wood like ziricote, ebony, Blackwood, etc?

Thanks a bunch!
Pat

Dymondwood is impossible to find ever since Rutland plywood burned to a crisp.  If you found some I say buy it and ask questions later lol

I might not be accurate with the name of the product. I know it's a laminated black "wood" in the same family as are big Jim's and other suppliers and bowyers.

On the pow wow forum I got some useful answers but still looking for a picture of a finished riser... No rush anyway...

Cheers!  Pat

Ummm, try searching Dymalux. Braveheart Archery had a Firefly awhile back that might be what you wanna see.  Think Jim uses Dymalux....

Good luck dealing with them . I was ignored for months then finally got a response only for them to ignore me again......Hardly the way to do business.
I've been using Webbwood. Helpful people and a good product. Try searching for them.

Yeah, after Curtis left I didn't use them for awhile, service wasn't too good. Then needed some yellow awood and got along very well on that one. Always called tho instead of emailed.
Stay sharp, Kenny.

I use to get some black/gray Awood from some feller named Kenny. I think this is a different critter than what your looking for though...

Good eyes Kenny. The snakeskin covers the black ibeam up the center. Also covered in the belly side with the turned Awood. A few more pieces at fades to blend. But again I think this is not what he is looking for.

Mike at Rosewood has a bunch of Dymondwood in stock that was manufactured overseas. He had ebony, but sold out on it. He says he is planning on gettinng another order of it going, but is waiting until he goes through more of the inventory of the other colors he still has. BTW, this is the impregnated stuff, not regular actionwood. I got some Kingwood, cocobolo & charcoal colored stuff, but haven't cut into it yet.

Don't know if Mike has the Dymalux or something else.

South, does that stuff stink when you machine it?

Understand the Dymalux does...

Thanks South, I contacted Mike but he said he was on the west coast buying some wood and would get back to me when ever he got back.  I mostly just want to see how black it looks and how the laminations show under finish.  I'll see if I'm lucky then!

Cheers,  Pat

It doesn't have any noticeable odor to me.  It cuts and sands very nicely.  I have gray green ebony and cocobolo.
