Guava called little flame

This bow was a long time in coming. Finally got it finished up last night.   it is 62 in tip to tip. it pulls 41 lbs at 28.  It is extremely narrow limbed 1 inch at the widest point, with lots of belly meat on the limbs. It had some weird kinks and snake to it that made it difficult to tiller.

I am happy with how it turned out. It did however get one little compression crack near the knot. I put a green dot on it to see if it gets bigger. Should I wrap it in sinue? Not worry about it? Tiller a bit on the outer limb to take a bit of stress of of it?

Anyway, It shoots great. I have arrows hitting where I want them to out to about 20 yards.

Thanks to everyone who gave me some feedback on how to steam bend. That helped me straiten out some issues early on!

I would fill the check with Loctite and then go ahead and wrap it with sinue. The bow is too nice to take the chance on leaving it un attended.

Ok. compression crack has been filled with superglue, and the area has been wrapped in some billy goat sinew from a goat I killed earlier this season, I figured using goat sinew will add some good medicine to a bow used for hunting goats.


Question: How long do I need to let the sinew dry? I chewed it up until it was good and soft. wrang the water out of it between my fingers and laid it on as smooth as i could. Keep in mind that its 85 degrees F. on a regular basis here. Any Ideas? How do I know when it is done so I can put some super glue on top of it?

cant help you there regards our question, but nice work just the same.I have several guavas in my yard that have to come out, breed too many fruit flies, so maybe able to salvage some suitable wood there myself.

If you glued the sinew with hide glue a week drying time will be enough.

Wraps and glue will only aid in tension failures on a bows back. Your problem is an area weak in compression.
