Taper sleds

Where do I get some taper sleds? Could I build my own by attaching some purchased laminations to the bottom of a board and running it through my drum sander or is there a better way.

Also, how do you keep the lamination from sliding on your sled?

You can do it like you said, glue some tapered lams to a board... or have a board ground to the taper you need. Mine is a little more complex, an adjustable sled of aluminum.

To keep the lams from slipping, I put 3m Safety Walk anti slip tread tape on my sled. It's adhesive backed and comes in different sizes. I used 4x24" and butted two together to cover my sled. I works well. You could also stick some rough sandpaper on there.

Not sure but, I think Big Jim has sleds.  Yes you can make your own by gluing a set of purchased lams to a board.

I have a .003 sled from big jim made from Jatoba I got a few months ago. 30ish $, Fair quality, looks like the wood was wet when they cut it up so it's warped but it still gets the job done. I'll probably make my own sleds in the future using a tapered lam glued to a board.
