Couple of new ones
« on: November 19, 2016, 11:12:00 PM »
Made a couple new bows.

The second pic is the limbs on the bow in the first pic. Found that spalted maple in a cut and split log in my father in laws burn pile. Both bows still need a finish.
The last pic is just a glamor shot of a bow i finished some time ago.

How did you do those long splices for the veneers?  They look awesome.

I just kinda clamp them along a straight edge at the center of the splice, then put a long clamp along the length. You dont need a lot of pressure. Never had them come apart.

How do you cut/pattern them to begin with?

All i did was make a hard board pattern the same width as the lams...1.5" with the "s" shape cut into it, then traced that to each of the woods i used, cut them out, and sanded carfuly until they matched. I put two thin lams between them at glue up.
