Hidden surprise
« on: December 19, 2016, 10:21:00 AM »
While building a bow with a very tight budget and very few tools I recently came across a wooden rolling pin at a goodwill. Tried pushing my thumbnail in it and it didn't make a dent at all. It had definitely been used but I thought it would still be an appropriate size piece for a riser. Got it home and started cutting into it and I'm not completely sure what it is but I think it's curly maple. Thought hickory at first but...this wood is so pretty for a thrift store find. I just got excited and had to share. I'll put pics up soon.

I think maple would be a common wood for rolling pins and I'm not surprised that it would be figured wood.

I'm with Pat. When ever we find a curly maple rolling pin it usually comes home with us.
