BlackTail v/s Morrison
« on: February 08, 2007, 01:15:00 PM »
I'm ready to pick up the phone and order a new bow. I've narrowed it down to either a Blacktial Elite VL or a Morrison takedown. I know they are both great bows, but I have only shot a BT a couple times and never shot a Morrison.

Any input for people who own, or have shot both would be greatly appreciated!

I've owned several of both. In short, Blacktail's have extraordinary craftsmanship. Morrison's shoot harder/faster. Morrison makes some great looking bows, but Norm's craftmanship is unmatched in my opinion. The detail and craftsmanship he puts in his bows is incredible. Blacktails are no slouch in performance either, but for the possible exception of an ACS(I've not shot one), not much will top a Morrison in performance. My opinion. Hope that helps.

Here's a Morrison and Blacktail that I have.

Very tough choice.  Either should be a great bow.

I am a very happy owner of a Blacktail.  I keep thinking about Bob's new recurve limbs, though, with a curly koa riser.  Or maybe macassar and bocote.  Then there's claro walnut, too...

Both are exceptional bows made by great people.  I think a guy would be pretty tickled with either one.

Oh the choices! I really like the BT with cocobola riser footed with myrtle, and myrtle footed with cocobola limbs. Norms bows are beautiful to say the least.

A.S,
I have owned both, and in my personal opinion both were great.I personally was afraid to take Norm's bow up and down a tree stand but I would not hesitate in a minute to bring a shawnee up and down a stand or in and out of a blind. Just a personal preference.

another disappointing thread that I THOUGHT was going to be about a grudge match and ends up is nothing but a suck-up by someone getting ready to order a bow and trying to get a nice discount for himself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hee Hee Heee.... Alan you've got it bad....  I should have never let you play with my new, used Blacktail.  Well,  If you can give it another week, Beau Slaughter will probably be at the Dixie shoot on the 17th.  He has a nice newer Morrison he would probably let you try out. (Still right handed)  I've shot it.  Nice..  Danny (Two Hats) and I plan on going.  Ahhh.... So many bows, So little time.  Talk to you soon.  Jeff

Jeff, I'm going to call you tonight. I'm going to try to go to Dixie if I can get off that Sat.

I was really hoping someone would actually have something negative to say about either of them, that would help in my decision making.

BigRon, I'm seriously considering buying one now, and one next year! I have 2 Widows that I bought last year, one of them may be up for sale in a few months.

Anybody know if Bob will be at Denton Hill in July?  I emailed him twice to try out a bow and never heard back.  I'd like to demo a Morrision and a Silver Tip as well.  My next bow will be a takedown added to the collection.

Get one of each, $300 will get you on the list for both and then you can have both, Bob is about 8 months out and Norm is about a year out, plenty time to save up:-)
Ive got 4 bows on order but Iam going to order one each of these so I can keep Christmas coming about every other month

Dalebow, I idolize you!!  I just settled my quandry, and ordered a PGA Black Widow. It's the new golden anniversary model, one piece. Bolivian rosewood/osage, should be a beauty!!
