Wrapping bands?
« on: February 13, 2017, 04:40:00 PM »
I'm getting real close to doing my first glue up using plywood form and rubber band method. I think I have everything figured out except one thing, which may seem like a silly question.

Which direction do you guys prefer to wrap your bands? Start at riser and work towards tips, or tips to riser?

I always start at the riser and work towards the tips switching sides with each band.  Be sure to have a plan to keep your riser and lams from sliding towards either end.

I drill two 1/8" holes, side by side in the handle area and use bamboo skewers or 1/8" dowels as alignment pins. This will keep everything aligned while you wrap the limbs and handle.
I also start at the handle and work out the limbs.

Thanks guys.
I'm planning on using an 1/8" dowell thru the  back lams to the riser and using clamps to hold the riser  Do you also run that dowell into the form?

I was also going to put wood blocks as stops on both the tip ends and on the belly side of the riser. But will probably leave 1/8" play. I think I would rather it slide an 1/8", then something get on a bind and not get right glue joints.

Nice recovery!!!
I'm afraid I would of had a couple fancy a** tomato stakes if tha had happened to me. My blunders so far seem like nothing compared to what you endured.

At least I can serve as a good example of a bad example!
