Weight reduction
« on: March 03, 2017, 06:41:00 PM »
I know this has come up a few hundred times and I did a search but still a little vague on trapping.  I have a laminate maple bow that needs some weight shedding. I built this bow over 2 years ago, but it needs some modification done. Its taken 1 1/2" of set and has been shot over 200 times. 63" NTN.

Its currently around 44# I want it about 40-41#.  So trapping the back would bring it down,correct..?  I could narrow it some more but that could risk ruining the tips.

Narrowing wont do much
I'v never trapped a bow
I have tried to narrow and it did not look very good.

3-4 lbs you could get easy with a good corner rounding. Most times I check mine for weight as soon as I have string grooves filed and will loose 2-3 lbs. in finish sanding. witch would include rounding just enough to get the sharp edges off.

Just anopther quick note on this trapping on wood bows. Do you 45 degree the back to the belly totally..? Basically one line. Kind of hard to explain without a photo.  I have done a partial and do not notice much difference. I did it with a file.
