New Bandsaw
« on: March 13, 2017, 03:45:00 AM »
I think my friends and family feel I have lost my mind but I think you good folks will understand my enthusiasm.

I have been using a craftsman 10" saw for 3 years. Recently I saved up my pennies and started the search for a new used bandsaw as the craftsman just wasn't up to the bow making job.

I made a deal on a 14" craftsman contractor saw but the jerk sold it out from under me for more money.
But then a 12" Jet (I was afraid was too small) showed up at a further reduced price.

Long story short I picked up the saw for 150 and after new tires and bearings fired it up tonight.  This thing cuts like a hot knife through butter compared to the craftsman and I think it will be just fine for making bows. This is the cast iron 12" Jet not the steel frame model. I am one happy camper.

What do you guys think good deal on a good saw or not?

I've never used a 12" jet, but if it's doing what you need for $150, I'd call that a win.

Heck yes, you can't buy much else for 150

I will post some pictures after I finish the refurb, the table needs some rust removed and a good waxing or two or three.  Craftsman rates their saw at 1/3hp max developed (fat chance) this saw is easily 3 times more powerful, easier to adjust and just feels much sturdier.

I see why Jet bandsaws are regarded as some of the best. Definitely a step up, hopefully the next will be a 14" Jet, Grizzly or Powermatic.

Nice... Good luck with it...  Put some furniture wax on that table... Stops rust...
