String ?
« on: March 30, 2017, 02:45:00 PM »
Ok so I'm close to putting a tillering string on my self bow.  Question is it ok to use para cord for this step or do I need a true tillering string.
Also when it comes time to string the bow( if it doesn't snap first) would you guys recommend a fast flight bow string.
Thanks

I hope so.  I use a static nylon cord, though.  Paracord has a lot of stretch.

I use #36 Mason's Line -- has a huge breaking strength. Stretches some initially, but that's OK; it quits after awhile.

I tried using paracord to tiller my daughters 20 lb bow and I found there was too much stretch.  B50 flemish with a timber hitch is what I use now.

FF will make a great string for your bow.  It has less stretch than B-50 but its more expensive.  Another option is D-97.  It makes a good string but isn't as expensive as FF.  You can use para cord and other  similar strings but you will be constantly fighting with the stretch.

Do you know how long of string you will need?  From loop end to loop end?  I can make a string for your bow and mail it to you.

I use para cord for my initial long string then move to a Flemish twist string with a single loop and bowyers knot I use only for tillering.
A don't use FF string for my bows. I could but I've been using B-50 for so long it's hard to change.
