Tillering a Pyramid Bow
« on: April 08, 2017, 08:03:00 PM »
I heard someone say today that when tillering a pyramid bow one should work the width taper instead of the belly thickness.  Any truth to that statement?

A true pyramid bow has an even thickness and the tiller comes from the side taper. Any bow that has a straight taper from the handle to the tips is considered a pyramid style bow, add a few inches out from the handle before tapering is called a semi-pyramid.
I've made many pyramid style bows but never just tapered from the sides. I cut the limbs to pyramid shape and tiller from the belly...and some side tillering if the limbs are getting too thin.

Also sanding the sides will make the limb unstable very quickly if your not careful. Take it for the price your paying for it but I add a 1/16th to each side just for wiggle room and either trap the limbs to drop weight or lightly sand the belly side of a selfbow , back side of a glass bow .
