Broken bow or something else?
« on: March 08, 2008, 10:24:00 PM »
Hi guys, loooking for a little help here. I bought a bow from someone on here about a  week ago. Strung it up (with a stringer) noticed the brace height looked a little short but being new to traditional i thought this may just be the bow, i drew it back it a couple of times then sat it on my desk and never had a chance to shoot it yet. I went up stairs to measure the brace height on it tonight after researching some stuff on how to set it up  and heres what i found.  The bow was lest strung during the week, and from the riser to the top limb was still taught. But, from the riser to the bottom limb, it is as if it was never strung. The string is on there but not tight and the limb appears as if it's unstrung. Is the bow broken?  Am i missing something...i hope so. Could it have been damaged in shipping and i missed it originally?

String Stretch ? Might need to twist the string  up again.

the string streched, not uncommon at all. the lower limb is made to be stronger and straightened out more. if highly r/d design it will break over center and look goofy as hell.

Could be string stretch - but what kind of stretch is that?!? Sounds like the string already gave up the ghost. No chance to twist it up to compensate. Throw it away and get a new one!

Imagine that! I looked at my ACS one day and saw the lower limb "collapsed". Scared the snot outta me. After a thorough inspection, I twisted up the string and it went back to normal. In a week, it happened again. I can take a hint, if it's big enough. New string!

Thanks everyone. Upon closer inspection the string has definitely seen better days. Going to get a new string ordered up a.s.a.p.
