Juniper wood in a riser
«

Can Juniper wood be used for risers in straight limbed longbows? I bought a board today that was inexpensive and was thinking of making some limb laminations out of it for use with fiberglass longbows. There is a section of the board that won't work for laminations that would make a beautiful riser, but I don't know if the wood is strong enough to hold up. The bow will only be around 40 pounds. I know some have made selfbows of Juniper but wasn't sure about risers. Thanks.

Thanks for the tip. I went to the website and found a bow with juniper in the limbs, but missed the riser. Was it a longbow or a recurve?

Hey Kenny,
Might be I'll just have to go ahead and give it a whirl. Not real confident, Juniper seems awful light for a riser wood. Don't know if it'll have the strength needed, but I know one way to find out. Take care,
Stan

Stan,
Laminate something else in with it!! Be a good time to make a fancy riser. I'd try to get a piece of something thru the grip. You don't wanna find out it ain't strong enough! Don't ask me how I know!! Good luck with it!
