I know this topic has been discussed to no end on powwow. But I think the perspective of the guys building bows is more relevant.
I've been making my own endless loop B55 strings for my bows and I am thinking of switching to low stretch material.  I started with B55 because I was making strings for my older recurves and well to be honest.....I'm cheap. Lol
So what are ya'll using?
My biggest desire is quiet and stability. But if I pick up a little speed, I wouldn't complain.
Oh yeah, cheap wouldn't hurt either

I use D97 on my bows.  I usually make 10 or 12 strand flemish strings.  Really don't notice it being any louder than the B50 I used to use.  The thing I like the most is the low stretch.  Have not tried the newest stuff yet.

The reason I bought it was to make a tillering string for selfbows because I was tired of the the B50 stretching so much when trying to get my bows to initial brace.

Oh, and the D97 I picked up in the classifieds was pretty cheap!

I use 14 strand flemish B-50 on a self bow and the brace height stays the same, it shoots fine. I mean what is all the hype a bout string stretch, I dont think I notice it. Then again my bows are only 38-42 pounds.
When I make a string I always pre stretch it.

Do you know how to make a flemish twist string?  If not, you should learn how to.  I used to make endless loop.  Once I learned how to twist one up I've never looked back.  I use D97, FF, 8190, 8125 and 452x.  I've made strings as few as 8 strands for a 50 lb bow.  My usual string is 10-12 strands with padded loops and double served in the center.

If you are looking for the cheapest option try to catch Chad from BCY at one of the trad events he sets up at.  I load up on string at the Tennessee Classic each year.  You won't beat his prices.  If you can't catch up with him send me a PM next spring and I can pick up a few spools and ship to you.

It works, no worries with the accidental dry fire, my bows shoot better than I can shoot them, and I'm cheap too.

endless loop is harder to make and lighter at the nock.
Flemish twist is easyer to make but a little heaver at the nock.

Thanks for the heads up on that string Scrub,  I will definately get some string from Chad after I look through your staves at next years Classic. I've been twisting up B-50 and hate to buy the FF until I run out of  it.

I've been using D97  , bought some at Mojam several years back and just haven't changed to anything else...

12 strand endless with 4 extra in the loops. And on the center serving, I use mono serving and run the tail under the serving up to a half inch before I end the serve. This makes a great fit for GT nocks.

I broke down the cost of each string material and the no-stretch stuff is cheaper that B50. A few obvious things stood out; you get a lot more on the spool and use a lot less strands per string. My bows shoot better than me, so do my rifles. But that doesn't mean I want to use $3 a box bullets in it.

I have not.  Have too much D97 to use up.  If I was going to "start over" I would like to try Fury or BCYX.  I have heard nothing but positive from those using them.

I have used most of the new modern string material from BCY.  They all worked great as far as I'm concerned.  I like the flemish twist string because it's quicker and easier to make in my opinion.  I didn't like all the serving on the endless loops.  Plus I think they look better than an endless loop.

D-97 is a good choice.  It will be less stretch than B-50.   FF and BCYX will be even less stretch but more expensive.  A 1/8 lb spool of D97 is $10 at the Classic.

When I make a string I pre-stretch it on a jig and leave it over night.  I stretch it way tighter than it will be on a bow.  It squeezes excess wax out of it.  When I put it on a bow there is zero movement.

I love D10 8 strand strings padded to 14 strands.  Double served with .022 serving.
