Another "how's my form" question (not what you're thinking)

I am finally getting to the final stages of my bow form and was curious, since it's a fire hose form, how critical is uniformity on the top half of the form?

For instance, if the gap is a bit less than 1.25" or if it fluctuates a bit here and there is it going to cause issues since the fire hose will conform to the shape?

Slight variations shouldn't be a problem. But I'm a stickler for details. When I build my forms I clamp the bottom half to the top half and use it as a router template for the top half so they are identical except for the riser cutout .

I like that idea and will employ it on the next one. Unfortunately, since my "planning ahead" function is inoperable, I have already glued on the 1/2" blocks for the straps.

It depends what kind of form it is,,,  If it is a mellow r/d you'll probably be fine but if it is a recurve the will bee too tight on the ends... I find that I want about an 1" or more space between the forms... The cross section of your hose should look like an oval race track with your lams and riser in the form...  You can make it a hair tighter in your fade area to help to keep them down...  Do not go too tight...  If you do the hose will become dog-bone shaped and unstable...  This will make your form want to shift and cause problems...  Trust me...  I know...

It's a KennyM plan so it has a fair bit of R/D. If I recall the smallest gap I measured was about 1.125" with a few places that wavered over that a tad.

You can just pad the area with a filler piece and some tape or glue it in and sand it back. I have not found the top half to be too critical but as crittergitter said I am a stickler as well.

I am kind of a stickler too but I always seem to struggle during the learning curve.

Cool...  Similar to my bow shape...  The ends of my form get pinched a little but not worth it for me to trim the top form...  Just make sure that they don't get pinched too much and the hose gets a dog-bone on you...    Have Fun...
