tip overlay vs wedge

So I am planning my first build. It will be a straight limbed, hill style bow, 13" riser, 64" ntn. My question is, do I need a tip wedge if I use tip overlays? I know true hill bows use tip wedges, but what would be the adverse effects of leaving them out? I am trying to keep it simple. I have a short draw, of 26.5" if that makes a difference. Thanks

honestly you don't need overlays or wedges on a longbow even if you shoot fast flight as long as your loops are padded. they are for decoration or warranty concerns for bowyers who sell. I've built many longbows and never had any issues shooting with naked tips as long as my loops were padded if shooting fast flight. I see some bows and they have a huge buildup of phenolic on the tips. all that does is slow your bow down. just my opinion

I agree, not needed...but at 64" even at your shortish draw, tip wedges might be beneficial.  It depends on the total "recipe".
