Ooops.  Sorry.  I guess it's one of those things where you read what you want to hear not what's actually written.  I saw Tru when you wrote Tung and just assumed you always use tru oil.

Glad to hear.  I have used tung oil a lot and will try it on my next bow.

Use the tung oil you wipe on, wait 8 minutes and wipe off.

what did you stain the curly with- looks really nice
obviously you do it after shaping- is it just careful application that keeps it off the rest of the handle- how do you stop it bleeding?

The entire bow was stained at once with silver gray alcohol based aniline dye.

Dang it Roy.
I just convinced myself to NOT stain my black locust lams with grey dye. Now that I’ve seen that maple I’m having second thoughts.

Actually different color dyes come out different on different woods.

Mitch, ya got a hickory riser and buffalo horn tips glued on today..

No biggie dude. I gotta finish Wayne's bow first. Plus some side jobs needing done, plus teaching a couple of newbies now..

Take yer time, hunting season hain't till next fall anyways..

Tim was back today. He took his bow home last week and put 800 shots through it. Tiller changed 1/16th inch.
He roughed out the handle.

 

Then final sanding and stain and tung oil.
