Texas Javelina
« on: May 01, 2009, 09:06:00 AM »
I went on a Southwest Texas javelina hunt sponsored by Kent Ostrem of Mahaska bows. I connected on a large (62#) boar with a bow that Kent made of catclaw and arroyo wood from the very rance we were hunting.

The bow is 58", 46# at my short 26.5" draw. I used wooden arrows and a two blade Zwickey. Hit the pig in the lung and liver, he went about 60 yards. Very difficult to track in the desert, the dry ground absorbs the blood and the sun dries it very quickly.

Their teeth are unbelievably sharp. They may be small animals but they have the tools and the attitude to do some serious damage.
