First Time Turkey - with a little help
« on: October 14, 2009, 10:25:00 PM »
Shot my first trad turkey today the second day of our fall turkey hunt here in Ontario.

The shot looked good to me, so I was a little shocked to say the least when he got up and cleared the trees at the edge of the corn field, coasting into the next zip code.  I could see the flo orange wrap and flech of my arrow waiving goodbye to me as said to myself "go down" "go down".

I searched for 2hrs before going home to get my dog "Gunner" the German shorthaired pointer. 3hrs of grid searching through the brush with a bird dog and I was tired and slowly loosing hope.

After getting something to eat and cleaning up a bit, I returned with my friend and hunting partner for one last attempt.

About a 100yrds past where I thought "there's no way he went this far" my buddy yells to me "I found your bird"

He told me he had prayed that we would find the bird....he also prayed for me last year when I lost my wallet in the field, which we also found.

I was shooting a 64" 58lb Mohawk Longbow and Tusker Delta 250grn broadhead.

Excellent!

You'll learn that nothing will surprise you from now on after you hit a bird, you just never know with a turkey

Congrats on a fine looking gobbler    :clapper:
