pictures-any easy way?
« on: November 12, 2011, 06:57:00 PM »
I'll probably get a ration for this, ( do the search) but I am tired and frustrated.  Is there a way to post pictures other than a host? I am semi-illiterate when it comes to the computer, but I can enter pics on email and other sites I frequent by just browsing "my pictures" and clicking on whatever I want to post.

If hosting sites are the only way to do it here  why is that?

Sorry for bringing up something that has probably been asked before, but someone can answer my question much faster than I can dig it out of the search function. ( As well as alot of other stupid questions that have already been asked/answered!)

Thank you for the link, but why can't we post directly from our pictures to this site?  I do it all the time on other enthusiest sites. I am not trying to be a PITA, It's just much easier on other sites I am a member on.

Yes you have to use a "host" to post pictures on this site.  As to why you have to do that, click on the "contact us" button at the bottom of the page.  Rob will give you the reason why.
i'm not very computer literate either, but posting pictures from photobucket or imgur or any of the others isn't hard once you get the hang of it.   :)

I have been putting off joining a picture hosting site for fear of another place my personal info is going.  Again, not knowing alot about how computers work, I don't want to open another avenue to be suseptible to some sort of hacking or identity theft. I sure would like to post some pictures on here though!

you have nothing to fear but fear itself.

the info required for most forums or online image archival sites is minimal data that can be acquired elsewhere about you far more easily than you expect.  none of that info - your name, birth date, location, email address - can be used to cheat or steal from you or yours.  all of that is a matter of public record.

if anything, you have MUCH more to be concerned about credit cards - they WILL be compromised far sooner than later.

you've already taken a leap of faith by joining trad gang, now go register at photobucket or some other image archival site.    :)

ken, 99.9999% of all personal computer hacking, bugs, zombie attacks and other malicious invasions that seek to ferret out any personal data stored in your machine occurs via pc's that run any microsoft operating system.  so ...
  • if your pc's operating system is NOT microsoft, yer reasonably safe
  • no matter what pc you have, do not store ANY critical personal info in your pc (social security, credit card, bank, driver's license, personal documents, etc) unless they're encrypted and protected.
  • password protect everything you can - your pc and all online access sites
  • change all passwords - email, sites, etc. - at least once a month to no less than quarterly

if you're running a microsoft os, i highly recommend installing a linux os (linux mint, ubuntu - these are all totally free and superb) along side your ms os.  i've been using linux mint for years, with several machines solely running mint all by its self.

no matter what, no operating system alone can help with email spam!   :)

Rob, thank you for the info, we will be looking in to implementing this as suggested.  So far we do not get any email spam, not sure if we are just lucky or what.  I try not to open any forwarded stuff (jokes, chain letters) and as yet do not have any visible problems. I just worry about Trojan Horse type stuff that may attach to legitimate exchanges.
